I love Strathberry bags. To call them Paris-adjacent would be an insult to Scotland’s design heritage, which is absolutely glorious: I went to art school because of a single visit to a single home designed by a single Scottish architect: Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott and his Blackwell. Strathberry bags feel extremely Parisian to me — they are that singular mix of luxury and utility, elegance and usefulness — but these adjectives, and those creative tensions, belong to the Scots just as much.
tl;dr: I bought a Mosaic, which is f-ing beautiful, and I wanted to share that beautiful bag, and the five runners-up to my springtime purchase:
1. The Strathberry Mosaic
As above: what a beautiful bag. Have you ever seen a faceted front like that before? I have not. It’s all soft angles and gorgeous leather — you can tell why this is their most popular bag. My runner-up, Mosaic division, was the croc-embossed black leather, but I ultimately found that was the one finish that felt true to the Strathberry Reddit reviews focused on a plastic-y feel. The interior is maybe a little smaller than it looks — phone and wallet no problem, but for the best yardstick — a book — we’d need something on the slimmer side: La Belle Sauvage.
Strathberry Mosaic, $695
2. Strathberry Mosaic Nano
Same vibe, same materials, just smaller. Unfortunately some of the faceting effect that’s so successful on the Mosaic is less evident here, but this is still my number-two picks, with such pretty hardware and that elegant Music Bar. It is much smaller — phone and wallet yes, but we are otherwise down to booklet size.
Mosaic Nano, $595
3. Mosaic Shoulder
Still in the Mosaic line! This is a summer-season launch and five stars for its envelope shape. I love that in their “What Fits in the Mosaic Shoulder” video there’s suddenly a comb shown in addition to the wallet and phone — something slim and long to take advantage of that slim, long shape. Top zipper, with an adjustable strap length of 23.6″ to 26.4″.
Mosaic Shoulder, $695
4. Barra Mini
This is actually a really good-sized bag, even if it’s officially the mini version of the Barra Tote.
Barra Mini, $695
5. East/West
I absolutely love this bag — it’s the only one that reminds me of the Meghan Markle one that made the brand famous back in 2017. Is the name and jade color a salute to China, where the brand has a shop and evidently does a lot of color? Who can say .No need for a zipper when you have that stylish metal bar enclosure! Ultimately the chain strap felt too limiting, which was the only reason why this bag wasn’t in the top position — I needed something more all-purpose. But by any other metric — obsessed.
