The Best Sezane Gaspard Dupes, Ranked

From the Johnson Coat to the Gaspard.
best sezane gaspard dupes

A Sezane Gaspard dupe is not hard to come by. For the uninitiated, the Gaspard is one the brand’s signature pieces: a slouchy, fuzzy cardigan with mother-of-pearl buttons and a boxy fit, with a length that prefers either a tall frame or an openness to a tuck. It’s usually available in a wide array of colors, and it’s $119.

This is a pretty decent price for a piece that gets all the details right. Its success, though, has inspired a legion of imitators. Here, an array of the best Sezane Gaspard dupes: All (except one) are cheaper, some are shorter, a handful are cashmere (and still less expensive).

My take: Several get close, but none manage to replicate the Gaspard’s special occasion status. In this case, I vote strongly for the original — better to buy the one right thing, if possible. And if the length is your stumbling block — a fair position — consider either several of the dupes below, or Sézane’s own cropped Gaspard, which cuts a couple inches off the bottom and $5 from the price.

Below: Gaspard dupes ranked by how close they got to the original, and cost savings.

QUINCE: BEST Gaspard dupe IN CASHMERE

Left: Sezane ($120). Right: Quince ($79)

Leave it to Quince to come up with the dupes of all dupes, with a very close approximation of vibe, buttons, length, and boxiness. The big difference is the mohair/angora mix in the Sézane version — Quince’s is actually cashmere, which should wear well and stay soft, but won’t have that va-va-voom-y halo that the Sézane version does. A great price for cashmere, but to me the Quince version inevitable looks corporate — no one’s going to wear that turned front to back.

H&M: BEST Gaspard dupe — BUT WAY CHEAPER

Left: Sezane ($119). Right: H&M ($24.99)

There’s a reason Sézane’s version cost five times as much: The H&M one is made mostly of polyester and acrylic, with just 5% wool and 3% Spandex. It reads more basic IRL and it’ll wear faster, too — but it doesn’t look bad! Very close in vibes, given the price.

&Other stories: BEST ELEVATED Gaspard dupe

Left: Sezane ($120). Right: &Other Stories ($129)

This is a great dupe — or is it just an evolution? It’s a wool-alpaca blend, so you get a bit of that fuzzy halo (thanks to the alpaca) with a little more structure (thanks to the wool). Of course, it’s more than the Sézane version. Between the two: I’d choose the Other Stories for everyday, and the Sézane for special occasions.

UNIQLO: BEST Gaspard dupe, OFFICE EDITION

Left: Sezane ($120). Right: Uniqlo ($34.99)

An office-ready version of the Gaspard. It’s longer than it looks in this image, so expect to tuck. 100% merino wool so no fuzzy halo, but it is machine washable.

Abercrombie: BEST CROPPED Gaspard dupe

Left: Sezane ($119). Right: Abercrombie ($85)

Sézane’s materials are certainly better, but Abercrombie’s version might rank higher for shorties who prioritize a higher waist and a slimmer fit.

Madewell: NOT EXACTLY a Gaspard dupe but cute

Left: Sezane ($119). Right: Madewell ($99)

The Madewell version is more just a lightly ribbed cardigan than a straight-up dupe, trading the fuzzy mohair for a more contained knit, a brighter blue color, a shorter length, and a fit made for wearing open, rather than buttoned up. Speaking of, the buttons are a little less boudoir, a little more normie.

Gap: SORT OF A Gaspard dupe

Left: Sezane ($120). Right: Gap ($55)

Is this a dupe, or is this just the Gap producing a round-neck, button-up cardigan in 100% cotton for $55?
