Balzac X Liberty: ultimately just OK.
I should love this collection, seemingly tailor made for francophilic fashion people who also love iconic Liberty fabric, and specifically the super-cheerful, super-summery sunflower print used here. I love Liberty so much I do crafts with it. I can tell you the exact right shop in France to find the biggest selection of it: Tissus Reine, in Montmartre. Yet I found this collab — with dresses, tops, shorts, a clutch, and a $47 XL chouchou, so big it is practically discriminatory against those of us with fine hair — only OK.
A little hard to wear? A little hard to wear. I find the Lavanda very Yesteryear though you are going to have to be making a lot of trad life content to afford a $425 nightie. The Constantine is pretty but it’s so much fabric!
Some pieces selling out at either end of the size spectrum; all shipping to the U.S. is free. See for yourself. You’ll find the best top picks below — and if you’re intrigued by the brand but not this collab, see our piece investigating: Is Balzac the New Sézane? (Spoiler: not yet.)
1. Aline Swimsuit
The two swimsuits were by far the best — note the cute tie back here. Aline swimsuit, $225
2. Emy Swimsuit
Same as above, just with a scoop neck. Emy swimsuit, $225
3. Brand Top
It’s just so much frou. But love that pattern. Brand top, $225
4. Roda Top
A Balzac standby tank in the beautiful Liberty fabric. Roda top, $225
