I think it might be!
I pass Plaisir Palace on my way to and from the gym, and it is perfection. I have never seen such a large collection of A+-condition Corrèges sweater tops, nor Valentino dresses, nor Saint Laurent skirts. The shop itself is pristine. There are a zillion vintage shops in the Upper Marais, all filled to overflowing with vintage designer labels, but many of them are poorly lit and difficult to maneuver — “filled to overflowing” is not actually an amazing shopping experience. But Plaisir Palace, founded and creative directed by Didier Barroso, is full of sunlight and neither spare nor overwhelming — there’s just enough stuff there to ensure that there’s lots to see but enough space to actually be able to see it as well. I’m not the only one who thinks Plaisir Palace is the best vintage shop in Paris — Le Figaro agrees.
I don’t know that Barroso actually credits himself as the creative director, and I am using that title spontaneously — his social channels don’t list a title for him. But the whole shop is so precisely curated that it feels like you’re walking into an editorial space.
It will not come as a surprise to hear to that the prices are high: That Saint Laurent skirt is €450. And pieces are épuisé (out of stock) just as soon as they land in store. The only thing to do is to keep a tight eye on the Nouveautés section and act as quickly as necessary.
The good news is that they will ship to the US; the bad news is that it’ll cost somewhere in the mid-two figures for delivery within 2-6 days. You’ll know if you’re the sort of person this appeals to. Further on the plus side, for some people: They often dress Lily Collins et al for Emily in Paris!
Go if you’re in the neighborhood! It’s a five-minute walk south of République. 3 rue Paul Dubois 75003, check their Insta for hours. And here’s where else to eat and drink and shop in the Upper Marais.
