I remember, extremely clearly so I cannot gaslight myself on this, going to Franglish and being told that there was no easier way to spot a Russian tourist in Paris than leopard print. And yet. And yet! Leopard print is all over the city this season, to the extent that I saw a mini-line of people waiting to try on Sézane’s leopard-print coat. And I saw it every-which way. I do not dispute the popularity of it worldwide — here’s a story from the NYT from just a couple weeks ago on its ubiquity — but I did think that Paris was a Leopard-Print Wall, if you will, given my previous experiences there. Here are some matches (from French brands) and some dupes (from U.S. ones) for this very old but suddenly very French trend.
Case #1: Leopard-Print Leggings
These are cute and perfect for black mini-skirts but I still feel like they’re a little Flintstones?? Prove me wrong, IDK. Free People leggings, $39
Case #2: Super-tight Leopard-Print Dress
I actually asked the woman I saw in this where it was from and was surprised to hear it was from Zara, because I thought it looked pretty pricy on (way more than $49, and it’s better looking in person than online). Zara “animal-print” dress, $49
Case #3: Leopard-Print Pants
I don’t get it! I don’t care. Everyone has a pair — Anthro, J. Crew, Chico’s, Ba&sh, I mean literally everyone — but I like Sézane’s best. Sézane leopard-print pants, $145
Case #4: Leopard-Print Cardigan
I like this one, from COS, because the print is a little abstract and it’s not, like, leaping from the savannah into our carts. COS cardigan, $170
Case #5: Leopard-Print Coat
The easiest way to wear leopard! This is the coat that everyone was in a line at Sézane to try on, but I like this older one, on Poshmark (so only in size two) better. Note that it was down to $130 on Sézane before it sold out, but this reseller is asking $325.
